NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP DAKINGARI, KEBBI STATE

Welcome to the overview of one of the best orientation camp in Nigeria,  NYSC permanent Orientation camp,  Dakingari kebbi state. I will start by telling you about Kebbi state.

      Kebbi state is one the state created on August 1991 with its headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. Kebbi state is located approximately between lat. 10 and 13.5° North and longitude 33° and 60° west.  The state is locked up in the North Western part of the country.  The state is bordered in the North and West by Niger and Benin Republic,  while to the East and South by Sokoto and Niger states respectively. The state has twenty-one LGA's namely

The people of Kebbi os made up of diverse ethnic groups,  prominent among which are the Hausa,  Fulani,  Kabawa, Dakarkari,  Kambari,  Dandawa,  Gundawa and Zabarmawa. These people enjoy a peaceful ethnic co-existence as a result of of common history, culture and political background.

   Majority of the inhabitants are Farmers who reside in rural settlements especially along riverbanks and vast Roman River flood plains (locally called Fadama).

The state has festivals and tourist attractions such as

Argungu international fishing and cultural festival- which is the most important activity in the socio-political life of Kebbi state.  The festival started in 1934 when the Sultan of Sokoto Mallam Hassan Dan Muazu visited Argungu signifying the end between Fulani and Karbawa war.  This historic visit herald the achievement of permanent relationship between Argungu and Sokoto and also marked the beginning point of the festival which is now celebrated annually. Others include Uhola festival,  Akinkiya moving rock,  Girmache crocodile shrine,  Alawasa battle field and Abdullahi Fodio tomb at Gwandu.

Now lets talk about NYSC Kebbi state. Have it in mind  that during registration that you choose kebbi state as your choice,  be it your last choice that you will see yourself in Kebbi state. If such happens and you see your call up letter and you are posted to Kebbi state,  pls dont fear.  If you will be going from Onitsha in Anambra state,  there are various transport companies going there though not all will take you straight to the Orientation Camp in Dakin-Gari,  they have to stop you at Sokoto State then you find your route to the camp. Lets now look at your budget for transportation, companies like Ifeanyichukwu motors at upper iweka Onitsha charges 7200 for early bookings then charges up to 8200 to Sokoto if your buying ticket when the camp have open. From sokoto to camp will not be more than 2000. There is also a transport company EASY MASS they uses Hiace buses straight to camp at the rate of 10,000. When i was going,  i used EASY MASS tansit they are also located at upper iweka after new Tarzan.

    Now lets look at the distance and duration of the journey,  from Onitsha to Kebbi is around 22-28 hours depending on the bus.  If your going from Rivers state,  maybe 24-28hours but different cost for transport.

Admistrative block

At the gate you will be searched by security personnels to avoid usage of hard drugs,  alcohol and electric appliances,  if u have any it will be seized to be collected two days to camp closure. at the gate you will be given a number that you will use to collect foam at the store.

When you collect your foam,  the you head to the hostels,  Dakingari Orientation camp have four hostels for males and 3 hostels for females. At the hostel you will select bed space and keep your foam and luggages.

After you keep your bag,  go with with your documents for registration at the Administrative block.  There you will be issued with state code and meal ticket.

From there,  you head to the hall at the back of the pavilion to collect your kits.
 Now you are a registered corps member on camp.  What remains is account opening.  I know that when it comes to money issue everyone takes it serious,  so try and register and get your account number for your Allawee.

Late wake wake  will not like this part,  you are expected to be on parade ground by 4:30 am every day for morning meditation so for you to make it,  you have to wake by 4:00 am to take your bath and get ready. Remember that your mode of dressing for the 3 weeks on camp will be white polo,  white knickers,  white shoe, white socks with green stripes and your NYSC face cap.  The first week on camp is so stressful,  everytime marching- Preey-Preeeeeyy Shun, Lol. dont mind me everyone gets use to it.  After the first which which has many activities like swearing in, Man 'o' war drills then you will enjoy camp as activities like Games  and Sports, Social activities will make you dont want to leave camp.

There is always inter platoons sports competitions on football,  handball and basketball.
For snooker lovers there is a snooker board at the camp market alias mami.

To spice it up,  every night after the first week is social night which has activities like,  Mr Macho,  Miss NYSC,  Big-bold- beautiful,  dancing competitions and other numerous social activities to lighten up your night.

Am forgetting one of the important thing; food,  waoh food at Dakingari camp is the best.

The funny thing is our slogan "Lazy Nigeria" it is on camp that you will see Nigeria flag wake up by 6:00am and sleep by 6:00pm whereas we the corps members wakes by 4:00am and sleep/Light out by 10:30pm.

 In a situation that you run out out of cash POS service is there for you.  You will receive your first Allawee towards the end of the orientation camp, be wise keep it safe that's the word.  Always keep your belongings safe.

There are presence of on -camp worship centers for both Christians and Muslims.

Christians has two denominations; Catholic corpers and NCCF both have their service 6pm daily and 12pm and 8am respectively on Sundays.

                       For Relocation

Relocation in Dakingari Orientation camp is based on Marriage and Health grounds.  Kebbi is a peaceful state where peace and unity reigns. From statistics,  no less than  60% of relocation applications are approved. 

If your one of those that want to relocate, Dakingari camp is where you get it without knowing anyone,  all you need is your medical report from federal or state hospital. We have able working Red cross and Medical personnel to handle your health issues.
